Haberdashers' Advantage at Crayford Primary
Our pupils have a world of opportunities at their fingertips through our unique character curriculum: The Haberdashers' Advantage.
Thanks to our staff, the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, our community, and our many partners, the Haberdashers experience for every pupil is like no other. By giving them this advantage, we support our pupils to be happy, confident and successful individuals who will contribute to making their communities – and the world – a better place.
The Hatcham Primary Haberdashers’ Advantage develops the individual character of our students through our school values, which fall under four pillars: moral, civic, performance and intellectual. To ensure equitable opportunities for our students the curriculum is focussed on three key areas:
- Taught – opportunities to teach our Trust values and character pillars
- Caught - policies and procedures that embody our Trust values and character pillars
- Sought – opportunities to get involved in experiences and opportunities that differentiate students

Haberdashers’ Advantage Curriculum at Crayford Primary
At Haberdashers' Crayford Primary, we understand the needs of our community and have created a unique curriculum to prepare our children for an ever-changing future. Our global curriculum allows our students to gain an understanding of the world and the skills and knowledge they need to flourish as empathetic, 21st century learners. We do this through the exploration of the of the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals and by prioritising personal development and our core values which enable our students to become well-rounded individuals who can navigate the complexities of life and flourish.
Our curriculum is designed to provide all students with the core knowledge and cultural capital they need; we aim to maximise their cognitive development to achieve this. The diversity of the curriculum reflects our pupils' lived experiences as well as those which are different. The Haberdashers’ Advantage is carefully structured to enable our children to enjoy rich experiences and opportunities beyond the day-to-day. Through these, they find their voice and understand their responsibilities in helping the world in which they live.
Within our curriculum, reading is prioritised, and our teachers understand their role as teachers of reading to develop fluency and reinforce the belief that we ‘cannot rely on one narrative to be the only narrative we seek regarding anything we hope to learn.’ Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (2014). We believe that our brain prioritises stories and by this principle, embedding stories into long-term memory will ensure that learners at Haberdashers' Crayford Primary have authentic knowledge, which will allow them to become part of the global conversation.
The above ensures we can provide an inclusive education so all children, including those with SEND, can achieve their full potential.
